Iowa Lawmakers Propose Increase in Gas Tax

Lawmakers and lobbyists in Iowa are pushing for an additional 10 cent per gallon gasoline tax, on top of the 21 cent gas tax already in place. Raising the gas tax, especially in this stalled economy, would hurt Iowa families by forcing them to pay even more at the gas pump. This proposed tax would be particularly cruel since the average gas price in Iowa is a whopping $3.70 per gallon.

In the War on Cars, the Left is Winning

Detroit serves as a cautionary tale warning of long-term liberal leadership. As Michigan’s governor prepares a state takeover of the terminally troubled city, many blame the short-sighted policies of the local Democratic machine. To be sure, runaway pensions, red ink and union obstinance have helped hollow out the once-mighty Motor City.

Obama's Debt Reduction plan “Cooks the Books”

Democracy and Power 108: ObfuscationWherever politics intrudes upon economic life, political success is readily attained by saying what people like to hear rather than what is demonstrably true. Instead of safeguarding truth and honesty, the state then tends to become a major source of insincerity and mendacity. – Hans F. Sennholz

One Year Later: Remembering Andrew Breitbart

It was 4:45am pacific time and my phone rang.  I didn't even open my eyes to see who was calling but I answered.  The voice on the other end was somber, "Kristina, you're going to read and hear that Breitbart is dead. It's not a joke, and I'm so sorry my friend." I sobbed. Not only for the friend I had lost, but for the leader I knew could never be replaced.

School Choice in Tennessee is good for everyone

While Tennessee currently allows students to switch from one public school to another, both in-and-out of district, their overall options are very limited. With the currently proposed legislation, SB196/HB190, legislators aim to create much greater educational opportunities that improve the lives of all children; especially low-income families. Children don’t deserve to fall victim to bureaucracies that standardize school programs when their individual needs are at stake.

Freedomworks Issue Analysis: Marketplace Fairness Act

The Marketplace Fairness Act would allow the states to compel online retailers to collect taxes on remote sales, increasing the cost of doing business and damaging competition unfairly. The Act places burdensome administration costs on some of the country's most innovative retailers, regulating them in a way that is at once discriminatory and harmful to economic growth.
