Where Walker Succeeds, Unions Fail and Wisconsin Wins

By: Jim Hoft and Andrea RyanNext Tuesday, Wisconsin will hold its recall election for Governor Scott Walker.  The impetus for this movement started early last year when the newly elected governor imposed bold changes in order to rescue Wisconsin’s deeply red budget.  As we have seen with other states in a fiscal mess, such as New Jersey, the only fix for the health of the state’s current and future economy is through a strong leader with a fearless drive to make the unpopular and difficult (but correct) decisions.  Enacting common sense economic principles should not make for a “pioneer”, yet decades of lavish spending in excess of state revenues has become the new norm, making actions based on common sense the new “radical”.

Should a wealthy family relinquish the rewards of hard work?

What if I told you that a graduate of a private college-prep high school, after racking up a 3.75 GPA and a standout career on the varsity football team, chose among many offers and accepted a full athletic scholarship to UCLA? Would this be news? What if I told you that he weighed offers from several FBS schools before choosing UCLA? Happens every day, right?

Utility MACT Dangerous for Economy

Using the Congressional Review Act (CRA), the U.S. Senate has an up-coming vote in June to overturn the EPA’s economically dangerous Utility MACT Rule. The Utility MACT rule is estimated to cost over $10 billion annually while only providing $500,000 to $6 million in benefits related to mercury. The EPA is unable to quantify or value the health benefits of the other air toxics regulated by Utility MACT.

The UMACT and You: What the Costliest Rule in EPA History Means for Americans

The EPA’s Utility MACT rule—the costliest rule ever issued by the agency—is a key component of the administration’s War on Coal. Despite the fact that coal is the mainstay of electricity generation, the Obama administration is adopting policies that favor more expensive and less reliable sources of energy, such as wind and solar power.  This campaign against fossil fuels can and will hamper innovation and development in the nation’s energy markets, harming consumers and the economy as a whole.

The Minimum Wage - More Unintended Consequences

All across our nation this summer, especially in larger cities, millions of Americans will be unable to find a job. The young, the poorly educated, and minorities will be the most affected. The biggest reason is the minimum wage and the barrier it creates to full employment.
