Free-Market Groups Criticize Barton Legislation

A number of free-market groups penned a letter Monday to House Energy and Commerce Chairman Barton to highlight their concerns with draft telecommunications language on video franchising, National Journal's Technology Daily reported. The coalition of groups -- which includes the American Conservative Union, Competitive Enterprise Institute, Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, Discovery Institute, FreedomWorks and National Taxpayers Union -- told Barton that they are displeased with language on "network neutrality."

Crowded out by the debate over immigration policy, the war in Iraq and tension over Iran, the asbestos reform bill is on Congress's backburner, waiting for a new push. But while it's unclear whether there will be action on the bill in the coming months, opponents to the legislation are continuing to work to ensure the bill doesn't get another chance.

As part of its ongoing effort to shed light on the massive and rapidly growing federal government, FreedomWorks has but the entire $2.8 trillion fiscal year 2007 budget online. The format is a simple “tree-menu” drop-down that lets users browse through the budget by agency, bureau, and account.
