Stand with Papa John’s- and against Obamacare

John Schattner, the man behind Papa John’s Pizza, has come under fire for saying that worker’s hours at his pizza chain will have to be cut and prices raised in the face of costs stemming from Obamacare. Schattner stated that the law would cost the pizza company $5 million to $8 million per year.

There was the expected liberal backlash. As has become routine for those who oppose anything related to Obama, Schattner was accused of racism. He was also painted as a wealthy man who was willing to hurt workers for his own bottom line or simply to be anti-Obama. Schattner insists that these are sound business decisions without a political angle. “I got in a bunch of trouble for this,” Schattner said, “That’s what you do, is you pass on costs. Unfortunately, I don’t think people know what they’re going to pay for this.” However, he also added “the good news is 100 percent of the population is going to have health insurance.”

Conservatives are standing with Schattner, fighting back as they did with Chick-Fil-A, by organizing a Papa John’s Appreciation Day. The official National Papa John’s Appreciation Day Facebook page now has more than 15,000 members pledging to support Papa John’s this Friday, November 16th. The effort was begun by Reboot USA and asks supporters to do 4 things:

  1. Like Papa John’s on Facebook
  2. Change your Facebook avatar to the Papa John’s logo on Friday
  3. Have a pizza on Friday! Take a picture of yourself and share on Facebook, as well as on Twitter with #IStandWithPapaJohns
  4. If there is not a Papa John’s near you, simply tweet your support with the above hashtag

The site also asks supporters to buy a pizza for a friend or neighbor who is struggling financially.

If the Chick-Fil-A precedent has taught us anything, Papa Johns had better be ready for an onslaught of orders this Friday. Let’s hope it teaches fans of Obamacare an important lesson; there’s no such thing as a free pizza- or free healthcare.
