March On, My Friend

By Matt Kibbe on Sep 13, 2009

The Morning After, I struggle to find the words to fully explain the significance of what happened yesterday at the March on Washington.  The day belongs to the thousands of volunteers who joined together to organize this marvelous day.  To those who worked so hard, and to every single American that marched: Thank You.

The crowd was HUGE.  Any reporter that claims thousands, or even tens of thousands of attendees was either not there or was willfully misreporting the significance of the event.

The House Democratic Leadership predicted up to 2 million on Friday, presumably to knock down the actually attendees the next day.  The Daily Mail estimated two million the day of the event.  NBC estimated “hundreds of thousands.” What I know for sure is that there were at least hundreds of thousands of peaceful demonstrators that descended upon Freedom Plaza, jammed Pennsylvania Avenue from there to the Capitol for over 3 hours, swamped the West Front of the Capitol, and flooded down the Mall and various side streets.  Our sound system, fully capable of reaching well over 100,000, was completely insufficient.  According to the Washington Post, “a sea of people surrounded the Capitol reflecting pool, spilling across Third Street and along the Mall.  The sound system did not reach far enough for people at the edges of the rally to hear the speakers onstage.”   I also know that the size of the crowd that showed up to march up Pennsylvania Avenue almost immediately overwhelmed Freedom Plaza and completely shut down that whole section of the city.  It was glorious chaos, made even more wonderful by the well-behaved, respectful and happy crowd.  No fingers were bitten off, no windows smashed.   I walked the March surrounded by fellow Americans that had come from all fifty states, overwhelmed by indisputable evidence that Americans uniquely treasure their freedoms, and will rise up to protect them no matter the cost or inconvenience.  Check out this amazing Time lapsed video of the crowds marching from Freedom Plaza.

After 3 sleepless days, a bomb threat that emptied our offices on Friday, and experiencing one of the most overwhelmingly best days for economic freedom and individual liberty I have witnessed in my life, from the stage I cited ABC news estimating the crowd at the March on Washington at 1.5 million.  I also said “with all due respect to our friends in mainstream media, we need our own independent head count.  Trust but verify.”  With a dead IPhone, I had been shown tweets from a number of different folks behind the stage citing the ABC estimate.  They didn’t say it.  I regret misrepresenting the network, as their coverage that day was fair and honest.

I suppose the error harms any future run I might have made for President.  Judging from some of the nasty-grams that have been left on my office phone this past week, this will not disappoint some.

Speaking of bogus tweets, check out this whopper.  David Schuster posted yesterday that “Freedomworks says their dc demonstration attracted 30,000 people. Park police official says that is being ‘generous.’”   Come on Dave, get past your denial.

I hope that the Angry Left wants to continue to have a debate over how many hundreds of thousands of frustrated Americans took the extraordinary effort, time and resources necessary to commit themselves to attend the largest gathering of fiscal conservatives ever in Washington D.C.  I also hope they continue to dismiss every one of us as “fake,” “AstroTurf,” “Un-American,” even “domestic terrorists.”

As the Most Interesting Man in the World might say: “March on, my friend.”  And so we will.  Post-9-12 March on Washington, there are now only two types of elected officials: Those who heard our message of less government and more freedom, and those to be held accountable.

TO ALL MEMBERS: FREEDOM WORKS IS RUN BY A WASHINGTON CORPORATE LOBBYIST FROM SLATE: Dick Armey, LobbyistPiper Rudnick, CSE, what's the difference? By Timothy NoahPosted Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at 3:11 PM ET Dick Armey seems bent on leaving Congress with a reputation as a tribune of the people. As Mickey Kaus points out, Tony Blankley made a fool of himself on The McLaughlin Group by praising Armey for "not going into lobbying," when in fact Armey just started work at Piper Rudnick, a D.C. law firm, as a "senior policy adviser," which is French for "lobbyist." Where could Blankley have gotten his misinformation? Most likely from Armey himself, if Armey's outlandishly self-serving op-ed in the Jan. 8 Wall Street Journal, headlined, "Citizen Armey," is any guide. The piece (which nowhere mentions that Armey will work at Piper Rudnick) trumpets Armey's excitement at becoming the co-chairman of Citizens for a Sound Economy, a right-wing think tank. "I hope to disprove the widely held belief that ex-politicians can never again become productive members of society," Armey boasts. Running CSE (with C. Boyden Gray, former White House counsel during the first Bush administration) will be "a primary occupation of my time," whatever that means. Armey describes CSE as a "grassroots powerhouse." In truth, running CSE will be an extension of Armey's lobbying work. It's hard to imagine that any of Armey's corporate clients at Piper Rudnick will object to CSE's agenda of lower taxes, less regulation, and strengthened property rights. Indeed, CSE is mainly a lobbying organization. As a "501(c)3" charity, CSE is theoretically barred by the IRS from "carrying on propaganda, or otherwise attempting, to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities." But this restriction has little, if any, practical meaning, and at any rate CSE also has a "501(c)4" foundation arm that may lobby as much as it likes to "further its social welfare purposes." The lobbying CSE does is of a kind usually described by its practitioners as "grass-roots" and by its detractors, more accurately, as "Astroturf." According to a spokesman, two-thirds of CSE's money comes from corporations and other conservative foundations (which are in turn funded mainly by corporations), and in 2000 the combined income of its charity and foundation arms exceeded $15 million. (Click here and here for the details.) The Internal Revenue Service, bizarrely, doesn't require 501(c)3s and 501(c)4s to make public their funding sources. But in the past, CSE financed a "grass-roots" campaign against Everglades restoration with $700,000 from Florida's three biggest sugar growers and waged a "grass-roots" campaign against higher cigarette taxes with more than a million dollars from Philip Morris. (Chatterbox is indebted to the Web sites for the Center for Media and Democracy's PR Watch and GuideStar for tracking down this information.) None of this is likely to change when Armey takes the helm. Instead of "Citizen Armey," the Journal op-ed should be headlined, "Corporate Shill Armey."

Yesterday was a historic day for freedom. But if you watch television news, or read the newspapers, you wouldn't know it. Only C-SPAN really captured the event, with their live broadcast from the West Front of the Capitol Building. The media coverage was absolutely pathetic, grossly underestimating the size of the crowds at Freedom Plaza and the Capitol. Law school AND Business management degree AND fire school

Drudge had this great video of the crowd at an Sen. Specter town hall in Phillie yesterday - this is a must watch and a must emulate at town halls across the country over the next month. online Computer Science degree AND english degree

is this really true?

Some asked what we could do next. Please join us in boycotting liberal media. On your television and internet. You can easily go through your cable line up and block out the following networks ABC,CBS,MSNBC and CNN. If they were not important to you before then no big loss. Below are simple instruction for blocking liberal media sites in your browser. I found direction for firefox browswers here, http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080120053857AAqCQgE With Internet explorer: Step 1 Open your browser tools. Once you have opened Internet Explorer, click on the “Tools” tab and then on the “Internet Options” tab. Step 2 Enable the Content Advisor. Once the “Internet Options” tab is opened, click on the word “Content” and then click “Enable” found under the title “Content Advisor.” Step 3 Disable the website. From the “Content Advisor” click on the “Approved Sites” tab and enter the URL of the website you wish to block. Click the “Never” tab and submit the change by adding a password you will be able to remember easily. I took the liberty of searching the following links to liberal media sites. I checked my brower and it appears to block most anything associated with the respective networks. abc.com abc.go.com msnbc.com cnn.com twitter.com/cnn cbs.com cbsnews.com --------------------------------------------------------- I will decline the kool-aid. Gary627 posted in 'Hundreds of Thousands of Patriots March on DC' on page 2, about boycotting liberal media(msnbc, cnn, abc and cbs). I mean blocking them on televisions and web browsers. I dont watch them anyway but removing them completely is great and a solid message. Quite a few were asking what WE could do next. Well that is something we all can do while spreading the word to do so. It should be a simple task. I am waiting for a reply from Gary627 over at the other thread. --------------------------------------------------------- I will decline the kool-aid. You can have mine. I was at a meeting in georgia that drew about 2,000 people. I think the next question is what next. I think what ever the coverage was there is attention being paid. It's time to turn it up a notch.
I guess we have new liberals showing up and expressing their outrage. We did great!! To liberals/progressives please tell your friends about this site because the more that join the larger FREEDOMWORKS's voice gets. Thank you for your membership 773,930. :) --------------------------------------------------------- I will decline the kool-aid. You can have mine. THE TITLE OF "MARCH ON, MY FRIEND" SHOULD READ: "MARCH ON YOUR FRIEND" AND YOUR CHANT SHOULD BE I GOT MINE SO I DON’T CARE, BUT DON’T TAKE AWAY MY SOCIAL SECURITY OR MEDICARE
My first protest in DC. Didn't march due to bus arrival time & location; but up front at Rally. Loved watching the marchers arrive at the Capitol. So awesome! Found this day to be uplifting, encouraging, inspiring. My "lump in my throat" moment came when a speaker ended his talk by repeating the words, "Stand up for America!" I watched as handicapped and elderly individuals struggled to their feet to shakily do just that - to stand up for America. It was an incredible moment! Sorry that I didn't get a picture - too emotional to think of it. I am fired up to do more, speak more, write more, call more, and to encourage others to do the same. I send heartfelt thank you's to organizers, promoters, volunteers, speakers, attendees, bus drivers, small town organizers, and everyone who made this happen. I am so very proud of my fellow Americans who kept this a peaceful demonstration. A DC policeman told us about 4 PM that there had been no incidents at all. Yeah! I truly believe this is the beginning of the 2nd American Revolution. Let's keep it peaceful, let's keep it growing! Let's keep the pressure on Congressmen & women; the President, and his czars to LISTEN to the voice of America. Let's remind them that WE THE PEOPLE have spoken! "Can you hear us NOW?" Thank you and God bless!
not sure if it was the same copter however it was a no fly zone and according to somthing i read today one or both was obama going to air 1 for minnisota
there was a permit for the annual black family reunion. thats why we couldnt go on the mall
i thought the march was great just wanted to vent about one thing why wasn't there a perment for the mall they told us twice that we would have to get off the mall i belive that was intentional when we got off the mall we were under trees and that would make it appere that we werent even there good for pictures right. any way if you were there and you view the link on hannitys web site that has pictures and a scale of the mall and how many people it holds you have to or i have and am certain it was at least a million check it out and keep up the good work
Hi, I was at the march on 9/12 and couldnt help see what looked like the same helicopter fly over freedom plaza while Charles Lorral was speaking and again at another point after we reached Capitol hill. Does anyone know if it was the same helicopter? Was it the news? Military? Police? Everyone has a different number for the amount of people that attended, maybe footage or info from the helicopter could help. Anyway....it was an amazing experience. Im tired of the people saying how were racists. Although it was almost all white people, its not because minorites werent welcome...its because people are misleading them to believe this is some KKK, white supremacy march against our black president. YES, this march should have happened while Bush was in office, but most Americans have been asleep while Liberty has been slowly and quietly taken from us. The majority of people in D.C. were marching against the ENTIRE FEDERAL government, with as much disdain for Pelosi and Reid as they have for Obama. Two out of the three mentioned are WHITE. A black man walked by me and was saying "White hoods! Two Dollars!" I feel bad for him, he could really understand what this was about if he just opened his mind. I feel even worse for not explaining to him what this was all about. I hope someone did...well next time we march if someone is misinformed I will be better prepared. I cannot wait to do this again!
Once again the modern revolution is being ignored by the media. local papers don't mention it and if they do they make is seem like it was a small bunch of angry white people just wanting to attack the president because of his skin tone. Well I was at the march, fist raised high at the footsteps of the capital building. It had nothing to do with skin tone but more the tone of the Washington elite who have decided to ignore the constitution and the people of this country. The gray clouds rolled in and balloons floated across the steps of the capital building. To my left was a pregnant woman, to my right a young man, there were old people, young people, kids, strollers and family's. There were soldiers there, some serving some retired and all angry. Some of the speakers were African American and denounced the movement the president and his Czars “38” are trying to pull off, and that is to make this country a Marxist, socialist country with a huge all powerful centralized government. We yelled out "can you hear us now", we raised our fist and pumped them into the cloudy sky yelling we will take back the capital building and take back the government from the democrats and republicans and give it back to the people. We chanted and listened and tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands all had a common mind set. We are resolved At this time in history special interest, corporations and radical socialist ideologues in Washington are ruling this government and make no mistake they will take your freedom and bankrupt this nation. When you lose the power to choose you have lost that freedom and it’s on the horizon. Do we want to20be the next France, the next Cuba, the next Venezuela, and the next China? Who’s going to stop that from happening???? Pick up a mirror my friend and look in it. It’s our time to recognize the threat to our constitution, and the threat to the American way of life. Just like the patriots of the past did. When I was there a kid fell off his bike that was just taking a ride with his mom. He wasn't part of the protest; he was just going out for a Saturday morning bike ride. When he fell off his bike me and another protester put down our signs and flags and helped the kid up and his mom gave us a big thank you. I straightened his bike helmet and they went on their way and we went on our way. We picked up our flags and moved on. That was the mood of the day ordinary people fighting for their way of life, good people wanting to make a difference, wanting to help each other. Just regular American folks who would rather be watching football then carrying signs but feel they now have no other choice. Another man came up to me and introduced himself and his daughter. You see he drove from Kentucky, and picked his brother up in North Carolina. He didn’t have the money for air fare so he drove there. He wanted to show his support for the constitution and for freedom the same values he is teaching his child. He said to me look at all these people and not one incident of fighting among them. More then anything yesterday I felt like I was on the bridge in concord mass when the first shot was heard round the world. I saw the resolve in people’s eyes, the anger in their voices and I can tell you friends this is not all going away it has only just begun.
Axelrod says there were not many and we do not represent America? I wonder what their response would be if 3 to 5 times as many came on a re-run, and stayed for a few days? But we know they saw us and heard us too, it is just another lie from the administration, or do they just live in denial? Boss, can we start planning a rally now for, say a month before elections?
I drove from Phoenix to DC to be there for the rally. I could not bring myself to do otherwise. Two family members died in WWII protecting our freedoms. My brother served in Korea on the front lines. He was captured and escaped, making it back to the American lines with machine gun bullets in his legs and part of his tailbone blown off by a grenade, but he made it. He also did it to protect our freedom in America. Bearing that in mind, when faced with the current administration pushing for socialist and communist type legislation I felt I could do no less to protect those same freedoms. No matter what it cost in missing work or travel cost it would be far less than my other family members have paid. I do have to thank the President! Had it not been for the direct actions of the President I would not have gotten to know almost 2 million of the best friends I had never met! Thanks Pres! I know this was not your intention but it sure was the result. As for the rally itself - I was hoping there would be at least a good crowd there and that I was not the only American willing to get my butt in gear and show up. When I arrived just before 8 am at the Washington Monument I was astounded to see thousands already there! Shortly after we all left in a group and headed to Freedom Plaza. Here I was awestruck! The entire plaza was filled to overflowing and there was a steady stream of people arriving from every direction. Yes, I was exceedingly proud to be there, but I was prouder yet of my fellow Americans who showed up. In the week before leaving Phoenix I told friends, co-workers, customers and others I was coming. To a person they thanked me for going and said "let them know you are there representing me too". Most either could not get off work or could not afford the trip, but to a person they wanted to be there. So - if you count me in the total then add at least 50 for those I represented. I need not comment on the total who showed up. The photos do that better than any description I could write. Personally, with all the folks at the Capital, the crowd jammed in around it and around the reflection pong, on past the park area, then curb to curb as far as could be seen, I would not be at all suprised with a total of 1.5 to 2 million. What I got out of the rally itself is that though we carried a wide variety of signs it all came down to the same concerns. Loss of freedom was #1 Next was an out of control government that is spending more than we Americans can afford. Number 3 was NO MORE DEBT!!! That was all followed by the "root cause" of it all - Representative, Senators and a President that are failing to uphold their oath of office by failing to uphold and homor the Constitution! Address those issues and all Americans will have a whole lot more faith in our government! The people I met crossed many lines and were the greatest bunch of people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. There were republicans, democrats and independents. There were whites, blacks, hispanics, native americans and asians. Race did not figure in this rally one bit. Neither did political affiliation. Neither mattered at all - we were all there as Americans! Astroturf? Well, David Axelrod, sender of spam mail (yes I got one too), beware we do not lay our astroturf right to your desk! The sleeping giant has been awakened and we are PISSED! Did you hear us yet?? I do have to both thank and compliment all the folks at Freedomworks and the co-sponsors. Thank you all for making this event possible. Call on me and I will be there to do my part in whatever I can...count on it!
I was there as a volunteer people mover on Constitutional Ave. I am so impressed with the conduct of the enormous crowd. I can't tell you how many people came up to me to thank me for volunteering.. I wouldn't have missed this opportunity to VOICE MY OPINION. Axelrod said today that there wasn't that many of us and we didn't represent America. What is it going to take to show them? I was at George Bush's 2nd swearing in and there wasn't as many people there as we had on 912. In that case " I CAN'T HEAR YOU" now you know who I am! C
I was part of the group from Ohio. At about 3:00 pm we talked to a park policeman who said they had estimated the croud at 2.4 million, and there were people still coming. I found the estimate interesting since it seemed to be a more percise number than a rounded number of 2.0 or 2.5. 2.4 million was a number we heard earlier from the buzz in the croud. Regardless what the number was I'm sure the WH knows and they aren't telling and I bet they are concerned.
I was born in a country ruled by a dictator, and I remember it being hell for my grandparents, who raised me until I was 11. I was one lucky legal immigrant that came to a great country called America. This amazing nation gives opportunities to all that are willing to work hard. On September 12, 2009, I decided to march in Washington just to make one statement. I LOVE AMERICA, the country that adopted me 45 years ago. I pray to God that our future generations will have the same America I have had. My husband is also a legal immigrant. This past May, we enjoyed an amazing experience. We attended our daughter's graduation from Medical School. America is an exceptional country, and Americans don't let anybody change it.
i was there yesterday, from New York State, with my retired pastor and his wife(in a wheelchiar)as well as my wife, and as a believer in the Lord, and as a blessed small business owner, 2 chronicles 7:14, thinking that just maybe there would be likeminded people to remember what and why and how our constitution was founded, Godly principals, "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by thier CREATOR with certain unalienenable Rights"! I was on my knees praying and trying to get people to join in, apparently not a good idea, i was asked to stop by someone who said he was a christian? i was telling people that we are not promised tomorrow, but we can pray today, and some lady said " I'll pray tomorrow? i wonder if she got up today? ALL i saw was a whole lot of people claiming to be christian (according to their signs) only to see in the spirit , that they were all there concerned with GREED and MONEY not the constitution, or our judeo christian roots as a nation! could this be why God is removing His grace from this country? Where are the true christians? not the counterfit christians only concerned with their money and please don't take it away? The bible says that the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away! Hhmm.... The only reason we have what we have is because of GOD.. Why are we refusing to pray for this country? Today I have no voice, I left it there crying out for this country and I know I did what I was sent to do? Don't you believe that with GOD all things are possible? All of the issues that were brought to the table can be fixed with one thing PRAYER!! 2 chronicles 7:14 says (God speaking) If MY people who are called by MY name, will humble themselves and pray and seek MY face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear them from heaven and WILL forgive their sin (pornagraphy, greed gluttonous, selfishness, adualtry, drugs, worship of false gods, muder, blasphemy,no love for anyone but themselves, stealing, lying, and covetousness of all the things that someone else is working for, and many more sins that are to many to list!!) and heal their land!! So someone please tell what the march was really about? the WORD says to seek the LORD while HE may be found!! Who are we? (as a nation anyway) The WORD says " IN VAIN THESE PEOPLE HONOUR ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT HAVE REMOVED THEIR HEART FAR FROM ME. and Neither a man work nor shall he eat.. Your Heavenly Father, was weeping the whole time.. can anyone say REVIVAL?
How proud I am to be an American!! WHAT AN AMAZING DAY...We made a decision to drive to DC to help support our fellow patriots......but how disappointing to see that the media did not cover this event except CSPAN...what the h-ll happened to Fox News...where was the support from,...Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity....O'Reilly...etc..this was the time for them to really show support for the people WHO support them....I love my country and feel so frustrated and upset. Thank you FreedomWorks for your Support God Bless America
The DC March was a historic success. It was a great day for USA and for Lady Liberty! We traveled from North Carolina with 6 buses full of patriots! Thanks to FreedomWorks and all of the other organizations who worked to make this historical event happen. We thank all of the volunteers who helped make this happen also. The state run media can miscalculate the number of people who showed up at this event all they want. But I was there and I saw the endless sea of people who came to stand up for America and her independence.
I went to Washington D.C. on Friday, September 11, 2009 and on Saturday, September 12, 2009 not only to participate in the March on Washington, D.C. on Saturday, but also to to meet with staff members of Senators Schumer and Gillibrand and Representative Crowley on Friday regarding my opposition to the pending health care legislation. My motivation for doing so had been a dismissive characterization of the pending rally as an "astroturf" event by a prominent Democrat (whom I don't remember) and my resulting desire to prove that ordinary citizens like myself are deeply opposed to the health care reforms currently being proposed and to the overall direction in which this country has been and is heading. I did not go as part of a group; I went as an individual. For those who are interested in my meetings with the staff members of my Senators and Representatives, here is my summary (My comments on the rally itself follows). My Senators and my Representative have publicly stated their support for the type of health care reforms being advanced in the House, and I did not go into the meetings with any real hope of convincing them to dramtically change their positions. I therefore took a moderate approach pointing out that they were trying to do too much at once and that their proposed solution did little to improve choice, to make insurance affordable (except by way of subsidy) or to incentivize the insured to take and active role in controlling their medical costs. I also attempted to point out that many people like myself shared my concerns and that their future votes, like mine, would be heavily influenced by this issue. The individual staff members with whom I meant were courteous, attentive and took notes, but appear not to have been materially swayed by anything that I had said. Surprisingly, the staff member for my Representative said that I was the first constituent who had opposed the proposed health care reforms who had bothered to schedule a meeting with the Representative or his staff. At least in some regions of the country, we are clearly not doing enough outreach to our members of Congress. With regard to the rally, it was obvious to me that it was was only loosely planned and organized, and that it was a grass roots outpouring of ordinary citizens with varying issues united (1) in a concern that the federal government was overstepping its bounds and becoming too instrusive and (2) in the feeling that their concern were not being heard. While limited, I must say that the planning and organization was adequate, in large measure due to the very well behaved manner of the crowd. The posters reflected a wide variety of specific issues, probably minimizing the underlying unity of the participants, and some of the posters probably played into the left's attempt to derogate the movement. I think that this is unfortunate as everyone with whom I talked, although often passionate, were always polite and courteous. In the future, I think consideration should be given to a common symbol of unity (the clenched fists which were used in the logos for the event have have some unfortunate historical connections with the left; the Gadsden "Don't Tread on Me" flag, which I and many others carried, would be more appropriate). I am disappointed, but not surprised by the poor media coverage of the event. Depressingly, President Obama's speech to an estimated crowd of 15,000 in Minneapolis the same day appears to have received more coverage than the rally at Washington, which, despite the absence of any definitive estimate, clearly involved significantly more than than 15,000 participants. I am hoping that eventually someone will provide a defensible, if not official, estimate of the numbers. The initial response from the Administration has been predictably dismissive. In his appearance on Face the Nation this morning, September 13, 2009, David Alexrod stated that he didn't believe that the participants in the September 12, 2009 March on Washington were "indicative of the nation's mood", that they "don't represent a mainstream view of this health care plan:, that he doesn't think that "we ought to be distracted by this" and that his message "to them is that they're wrong". Clearly, much works remains to be done to convince the politicians in Washington, D.C. that they should change direction. For what it is worth, we need to come together under a common set of principals and policies which will appeal to the majority of voters. My guess is that this will require us to make incremental progress over a long period of time but is it not better to get to where we want to be gradually than never get there at all. My thanks to FreedomWorks for their invaluable assistance in coordinating this grassroots effort and to S. Keith Capp at the National Taxpayers Union for putting me in direct contact with the schedulers for my members of Congress.
Mr. Kibbe, I believe you misrepresented the number of people at the march didn't you? Not only did you state there were 2 million but you had the audacity to source ABC News so they could take the hit on the inaccuracy. Even your colleague Mr Steinhauser was at a loss to explain your claims: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/abc-news-misquoted-crowd-size/story?id=85... Oh wait I 'm sorry - now you are letting your own marchers take the fall.
mkibbe, thank you and your staff/organization for your time and effort. It has not gone to waste. -------------------------------------------------------- I will decline the kool-aid. You can have mine. FreedomWorks makes an impact that is why the liberals are here.
"No man is an island." The great Christian poet John Donne wrote those words, which have come to express for millions the essence of Jesus' message. This is the message of humility that speaks the truth of mankind's existence on this earth. Our lives are brief and what we can know is limited. None of us has dominion over ourselves, much less over the earth. Yet, we do have the free will to emulate the life of Christ-- or other figures who history has offered us as examples of the Saintly life. All of them share a mission of humility, of service to others. This is why civilization was formed, to provide certain common ground, a certain safety from the "state of nature," in which life was so brutal and dangerous that, indeed, all men were islands in constant battle simply to stay alive. Slowly, over thousands of years, the human race has made small steps towards taming its own savage heart. We made a social contract-- Jefferson and the other founders framed this into the constitution. We agreed to give up a small measure of freedom to gain much greater freedom. Because nobody is free when only the powerful, the bullies, the tyrants, rule without constraint. The people formed a government to protect this fragile civilization from enemies within and without. They agreed to pay taxes to provide for the common defense, then for security at home, and eventually, as the world changed, for measures unimagined by the framers. Teddy Roosevelt understood that unless the huge industrial monopolies were opposed by the government that they were the largest threat to freedom in his day. And so it continues. Today, Americans have been exploited by the oil lobby (California was virtually bankrupted by Enron and its allies when they cut off energy to the state in 2001, supported by Dick Cheney and others in their employ). America has been exploited by Wall Street bankers, who let their stooge Paulson grab 350 billion dollars of our money and horde it. And most of all we've been exploited by insurance companies who cheat doctors even as they deny coverage to long term customers who happen to get sick. All because the central government has been too corrupt-- and too weak-- to do its job: protecting the people. We are all islands today, standing alone in a world in which we feel powerless. Now along comes Grover Norquist, a man I went to school with and know personally. He says "People just want to be left alone." Well in the world of today, the man left alone will be a grain of sand in a wind that won't even know he's there. This wind isn't just blowing in Washington or in Alabama. It's blowing in India and China and Brazil. It's blowing in Japan and Ireland and Canada. And this man left alone has nowhere to turn, because he doesn't understand the forces that are buffetting him. Now the government-- can they be trusted to defend that man? To spend his money wisely. Not unless he educated himself. Not if he doesn't understand history and economics and science. Not if he hasn't read Shakespeare and Mark Twain. Not if he doesn't have the wisdom to know that governments will always be corrupt-- but only to the extent that we let them be so. The Freedom Works ideas include some good values. But their creed is misguided. An America of people left alone is a civilization lost. People don't really want to be left alone anyway. People want to be part of something. They want to build a better world for their families. This can only be done in common with their fellow citizens. No man is an island. It is probably worth mentioning that many Freedom Works volunteers felt the inspiration of common cause in their march on Washington. The sad part is that they are marching only for the end of civilization. Because while we would all like to return to the simple Edens of our imagination, it is impossible. What we will find in an America that does not confront the future unified, intelligent, serious, and rational, will be a wasteland. It is probably worth mentioning that Grover Norquist, Joe Wilson, Freedom Works and its allies are heavily backed by money from the very insurance companies and other corporations that are most threatened by the health reform which Freedom Works has chosen as its target. Is that really a coincidence? This isn't to impeach the motives of the membership, only to suggest that they are engaged in a march to nowhere. And that they are the unwitting servants of the real tyrants. The rest of the world sees this clearly. If the membership broadened their horizons they might understand that too. And then, instead of being laughed at, or scorned by most of the 300 million Americans who did not march on Washington (Fox News reported that only 60,000 actually were there-- the same number quoted by that socialist organization, the Fire Department), they might enter into a partnership with the rest of America-- a partnership that can lead mankind towards-- instead of an island-- another great Christian symbol (this one originating from St. Augustine) that shining city on a hill. But then, they'd have to understand what it means to be a minority in a democracy, and this, apparently, is impossible for the folks who insult the memories of the men and women who staged the real tea parties and fought the British to ensure our liberty-- human beings who did not have the right to vote-- which sometimes means not to win the election. Sad to say: the tea party movement stands as one of the most foolish moments in human history. As Jefferson declared, democracy is impossible with an uneducated citizenry. Thank God they number less than 1% of America!
Thanks you people. I gave money but could not go. May you be blessed by whom ever looks over you :) --------------------------------------------------------- I will decline the kool-aid. You can have mine. FreedomWorks makes an impact that is why the liberals are here.
As I walked down Penn. Ave, joining in with the thousands of others, young and old, I have never been so proud to be among them. Thousands, hundreds of thousands, and I say over a million people came from all 50 states to be there, imagine if all those that do not agree with the left wing socialists could have attended. And the white house releases statements that say that this is not the general feeling of the public? Maybe someone should take a poll of those that are working for a living, and those that are already subsidized by the government, and see which each side believes. Those that won't have to fund this plan, of course are going to be in favor of it. I say, those that pay, should have the say. I wanted to thank everyone who made the event possible, for such a large crowd, I was amazed that it was a relatively easy trip for me and my family. Also, my thoughts and prayers go out to all the veterans and our current troops for defending this great nation. We must all continue to fight for our freedoms, and get back to what the founding fathers had intended for this nation, so that our children will still share in these freedoms. Vote out every senator or congressman that does not make the pledge! And do not vote in any that don't uphold the constitution! The time has come, we must act now! Keep organizing and supporting these events!
We were there! 6 of us from Westchester County NY made our way down via a bus from Paramus. When we came out of Union Station and started making our way down to the Capitol, we were stunned speechless by the vast sea of people...there were people as far as the eye could see! There was every homemade sign you could think of, there were thousands of people wearing red, white and blue,in some form, they were all ages, all colors...it was amazing. I had never protested in DC before, in fact my first protest was in White Plains on April 15th! We made our way to the capital and ended up about 400 ft away from the podiums....and then you turn around and see the monument which is about 1 mile away...and your eyes can't believe that 1 mile is covered in flag waving, sign waving, people...thousands of people! I am exhausted by the day...it was a long day, but my heart is so full of pride for our country and the greatness of her people. I pray we take our country back from these evil and corrupt politicians before it's too late.
It was the largest 'rally' of fiscally conservative Americans in U.S. History. We were there, taking in not only this historic event, but a pivotal moment for our country's future. The 912 Event was truly indescribable as I have never felt so in love with this country as standing shoulder-to-shoulder with like-minded Freedom Loving Americans from coast to coast. Now we must continue our movement forward to steer this country away from further danger. We must ensure that our elected officials not only believe in, but firmly uphold, defend and protect our precious Constitution. Sadly, it is my belief that these representatives are fewer in number today than ever before. Please take a moment to download and print the '5 Pledges to Congress'. Distribute to every one of your representatives. If their unwillingness to sign a pledge to uphold the Constitution or their voting record is such that defies the Constitution ...they're OUT! Print the '5 Pledges' here: http://www.INorOUT2010.com THANK YOU AMERICA!
I was there also. I was so moved and proud of every single person there. It was beautiful to see wheelchairs next to baby carriages. We need to keep up being loud and visible! This is the start of a revolution and EVERY DARN politician in DC better be listening or they better GET OUT! Thanks Freedomworks..... And to the MILLION plus patriots who showed up!!!
I was there in DC yesterday. I was proud to be an American and felt great that at last those who oppose this socialist agenda have a voice. I have to emphasize that we cannot let this opportunity go to keep the pressure on these leftists. They will go to ANY lengths to change our precious country to a state we no longer recognize. Let's keep the momentum going - let's pledge ourselves to saving this great nation from this administration's foreign ideas.
Sir, Obviously you are not Spirit filled therefore have no revelation of the Bible. Your human mind cannot understand the Word of God. Anyone can take a verse from the Bible out of context and give meaning to something different. To take from your neighbor and give to someone else is evil. You Communists love to quote "love your neighbor" from the Bible but I say stealing from your neighbor what he has labored all his life by paying taxes and following the rules, is not loving your neighbor but dictatorship. Jesus said be as wise as serpents and as harmless as doves. Mosses' serpent eat the other man's made serpents! Receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior in your spirit man then you will have eyes to see and ears to ear. Hallelujah.
Romans 13:1-7 If you don't want to pay your taxes, don't claim to be a Christian.
I was there and it was great! I never felt prouder to be an American in my life! The signs at the rally were incredibly clever. Our problem may be that we have too many messages. When trying to decide what to put on my sign, I almost put "I'M MAD ABOUT SO MANY THINGS - I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO PUT ON THIS DAMN SIGN!"! Finally, for the Left and the mainstream media, "I am not a Radical, I am a VOTER!" Although, I have to say, I never felt more like a "radical" in my life. It was pretty radical for me to spend my own money and make my way to a far away place to stand up for what I believe. No "organization" backing me. Keep the march going! Anne Cink
Maybe you could unteach people how to read, too. That will really serve democracy. Sad to watch the army of lemmings as they approach the cliff.
Okay, now you've made yourself clear: you're a religious fanatic. You think you have a direct line to God and only you knows what's right. And you think your particular idea should be imposed on everyone else. Therefore you are just like every other religious fanatic from every other religion. I can already hear you say, no, we don't want to impose our ideas on anybody-- we just want to be left alone to live our own ideals. I hope that's true, but when you march to block others from realizing their goals, then your fanaticism becomes arrogance, which is sinful. I really wish you people would actually live the saintly life you claim to live. There are right now good people living quietly in monasteries, retreats, farms, and in the hills. They grow their own food, nurture the land, and raise decent kids. This government is no threat to them. The poor pay virtually no income taxes anyway. So all this crying about having your freedom taken away is meaningless babble.
But China's economic policy is exactly what Libertarians are supporting. Free market capitalism!
Do you know that Dick Armey, founder of FreedomwWorks helped pass NAFTA.
In one more year of obamanomics we would be china.
Obama has tripled the deficit..........Your correct, Obama did not cause the downturn. It was caused from legislation that went into effect during Clinton's admin (he was and embarrassment too). NAFTA, screwed us all over. Why did all the manufacturing go over-seas? NAFTA. You Communists have done a great job of ruining this great nation. His legislation does not really help me now, does it.......do you even work for a living? Working for the Obama health care campaign doesn't count. Obama, in the dark of Friday night, added a tariff to China's imports. He is trying to collapse this economy. Read the planks of communism, I bet you could learn a thing or two.
if you figure .4 person per square foot the area covered by people in the aerial photos is roughly on the low conservative side around 2,200,000 square feet. That would account for roughly 880,000 people in the mall and in front of the steps of the capitol. That does not count the people outside of this narrow window of "area" that I measured. You are only here to cause strife, go home and say hi to your dad nobama for us. Move to Russia....
The Economy was crippled by Bush. Obama has not even been in office long enough. And Obama just passed legislation to make student loans more affordable.
Those are foolish words shaped by the liberal media that is obviously one sided with an agenda to help the communist movement succeed in this country. If you want to live in a communist country, move to Russia don't try to ruin this nation that soo many of us have worked hard to better. I just graduated from college to better my financial position in life, 4 years of hard work for a degree that now I can't even afford to make the payments on due to the economy that is crippled by the obamunist agenda. I marched on Saturday because I am pissed at the lack of respect this administration has for the people that actually work and pay taxes and are law abiding citizens. Now I am a terrorist threat? Get real! I bet you (THEMAN) are on the obamunist's payroll or are a representative of the labor unions. Oppression is not freedom. Way to attack the white christian population, read the 10 planks of communism. That is in there. We are not ignorant, and we made a good showing that we are pissed. We won't stand for it much longer, you better shape up.......
If you want censorhip go to China I am sure their leaders would love your ideas.
No I did not vote :-) this time, cause both parties were reprehensible, and still are in fact, futhermore, not a fan of Ronald Regan, or george bush 1 or 2.,(left small on purpose) simpleminded people do not have the ability, to even consider that a creator, all powerful and grander than themselves, such as yourself for example, and the small mindedness that you seem to accuse others of, created this planet and everything in it, as well as on, it including you! the whole leadership of BOTH parties is corrupt and they all hold hands together, to destroy that which they did not create. By removing GOD out of everything opens the door for something other than to take control, so how is a power vaccum filled? By evil if allowed, because evil abounds when the good people of GOD do nothing, tell Your boy puppet obama(same) not on my watch!! The bible says IT is appointed unto man to die, guess what? there is no way you are getting out of here alive.. and then the Judgement. Where are you going when you die? do you know? The longer you stay here the older you get. Sounds like you have a great education? how about a job? Or are you one of the many freeloaders living out of mine and the goverments pocket? I'm only asking because you seem like a moocher, and if it came from the goverment it came from me,or shall I say WE! My HERO hung on a cross for me something that no man can provide, the gift of life! Just like your obama puppet cannot porvide, its not up to man, to do GOD's job. Revival? Jesus Is Coming! The saviour's name is not obama! Now that's serious.
Serious people don't respect your organization for a simple reason: your ideas are simpleminded. Nobody disagrees with you that massive debt is a terrible thing. But we got into a massive hole-- largely in part because of the ideas espoused by your hero, Ronald Reagan, who had an insane theory that cutting taxes would somehow balance the budget. This was pure fantasy, and, because people like you believed it, we all went into that hole. It's a catastrophe for everybody that George W. Bush continued that fantasy, and made the hole bigger. I suppose people like you-- who made that hole-- want to duck your responsibility now and let everyone else suffer. Because if we don't repay what we owe this country will end up as a third world nation fast. Are you really so blind that you don't understand what foolishness you espouse? Fortunately, the rest of the country is willing to be adult and face the truth. We do not believe our government is run by 100% honest people because we understand that human nature is fallible. Terrible abuses have occured-- mostly supported by the right. Read about Grover Norquist and Tom Delay's economic crimes. You people have facilitated all that and now you protest? What a joke!! Oh, just to remind you again: You voted. We voted. You lost! March around all you want, but respect democracy. That's what the real tea parties were about, not your pathetic charades.
and by the way "freedomkiller" it was'nt about the poor having the right to see a doctor.... it was about TEA PARTY PROTEST, taxation without representation, And strapping and loading down DEBT to our childrens, childrens, children, and the watering down of GOD, and the watering down of the contitution of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!!!
