Boehner “Executes” Fiscal Conservatives

Democracy and Power 109: The Legislature – Majority Controls

A professional politician is a professionally dishonorable man. In order to get anywhere near high office has to make so many compromises and submit to so many humiliations that he becomes indistinguishable from a streetwalker.  —H.L. Menchen

As a member of a legislative body, it is nearly impossible for an individual politician to advance their legislation by themselves. A successful politician must be in the majority or needed by the majority.

Therefore, politicians must cooperate and compromise with their fellow members. In America, this is largely accomplished by being a loyal and obedient member of either the Democratic or Republican parties.

Boehner “Executes” Fiscal Conservatives

This week, Julie Borowski of FreedomWorks reported on Boehner removing three Republican Representatives from important committees; Justin Amash of Michigan, Tim Huelskamp of Kansas, and David Schweikert of Arizona.  Their offenses?  They were not loyal to the commands of Boehner and his leadership team.

Instead, these elected Representatives consistently voted for reduced spending – exactly what America needs.  What America needs doesn’t matter to Boehner.  In order to maintain his position of power as leader of the Republicans in the House, he needs loyalty.  Welcome to the political gamesmanship of D.C.  Party loyalty prevails over good policy.  So, Boehner punished three fiscally responsible members by removing them from important committee assignments.  Without a doubt, Boehner can and will impose more punishments  – for example withholding campaign contributions.

Most important, though, is that Boehner’s power play sends a direct message to the other Republicans in the House – fidelity is essential for your political future.  These “executions” are not about policy – cutting spending.  Boehner’s great fear is that there are potentially 30, 40, 50 or 100 fiscal conservatives that could rebel.  Then, Boehner would lose all his leverage against Pelosi, Reid and Obama.   And this is the political game played by the adolescents in DC – power, winning, controlling.  A political game that Obama, Pelosi, Reid, McConnell and Boehner zealously play.  By being obedient and loyal sycophants, they climbed the ladder to their exalted positions, or, as Menchen noted, a politician ” … has to make so many compromises and submit to so many humiliations….”

A few of weeks ago, I wrote about the Conniving Five – Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Boehner and McConnell.    For the past four years, these have been the supreme power players in DC.  Last year, they negotiated the incoherent and irresponsible “fiscal cliff.”  Please know, these are not honorable people seeking good policy.  They are power mongers.  We the People will only stop their unrelenting abuse of force by substantially reducing the size and reach of our government.  Our Constitution intended to forbid their obtained superpowers, but previous political power mongers have already shredded the intended constitutional restraints.

Additionally, Boehner’s “executions” of three responsible Representative is virtually an act of war against the Tea Party Rebellion, and personal freedom. Without a doubt, Boehner’s power play is directed at FreedomWorks and the millions of people clamoring for reduced debt and less spending.  In response, We the People must extend our message of freedom – small and limited government, protecting people and their property.  We the People must increase our numbers.

In the mean time, the Conniving Five are secretly negotiating and the federal government continues to create and accumulate enormous debt, which will eventually be a tax on everyone.  Again, this is how DC operates.  It is dishonorable, and is destroying the freest country in the history of the world…America.  As Menchen observed many years ago:

A professional politician is a professionally dishonorable man. In order to get anywhere near high office has to make so many compromises and submit to so many humiliations that he becomes indistinguishable from a streetwalker.

Please note:

Since writing this post  Representative Walter Jones of North Carolina has also been removed from an important committee.

In 2010, Pelosi confronted wayward Democrats.
