Club for Growth Endorses Steve Beuhrer in Ohio Special Election

The Club for Growth, Pat Toomey’s network of economic growth advocates, recently endorsed Steve Beuhrer to fill the seat of the late Honorable Jim Gillmor of Ohio’s 5th Congressional district.

In a field with two Republicans vying for the empty seat, Beuhrer could not be more different from his party-lapdog opponent, Bob Latta.

Vote after vote, Beuhrer rejected the party line, staying true to his pro-market, limited government values. Beuhrer voted against two of the largest tax hikes in Ohio history. Latta? He voted for them.

President of the Club for Growth, Pat Toomey writes:

“Because Buehrer voted no, GOP leadership stripped him of his seats on both the Finance and Appropriations committees. This proves that Buehrer not only votes right, he votes right even when threatened by political bosses in his own party.”

While Latta supported prevailing wage laws that favored unions, Beuhrer opposed the crippling legislation and later fought to have the bill repealed.

Beuhrer consistently voted against health insurance mandates that would add ever-increasing regulations in an already crowded field. His opponent, predictably, landed on the side of special interests that benefit from less consumer choice.

Beuhrer’s dependable brand of staunch economic conservatism earned him not only the Club for Growth’s accolades, but also “Conservative Legislator of the Year” and not once, but three times, the coveted “Watchdog of the Treasury Award” by the United Conservatives of
Ohio.
