Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) targeted 14 moderate Democrats with its grassroots “Not Pelosi” campaign to encourage them to vote “Present” today. The campaign was anchored by the activist website www.NotPelosi.com.

Four of those Members, Representatives Ralph Hall and Charlie Stenholm of Texas, Ken Lucas of Kentucky, and Gene Taylor of Mississippi all refrained from voting for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker, thereby distancing themselves from one of the most liberal Members in Congress. CSE applauds these four Democrats for their tough vote.

Nancy Pelosi is a poor choice to lead house Democrats. Her CSE Economic Scorecard in the 107th Congress was 0 percent, the worst possible score. That means on twenty key bills, Nancy Pelosi voted every single time against tax relief, economic growth, more jobs, and greater competition.

Four mainstream and moderate House Democrats voted today in the interests of American taxpayers and future economic liberty. It’s unfortunate that so many more voted for Pelosi and her outdated, anti-business policies.
