Florida: Respect Property Rights in Brevard County

Right now, the Brevard County Commission is reviewing a SEA (Save Endangered Areas) Ordinance, legislation that would effectively tell property owners what they can and cannot do with their own property.

Does Brevard County Respect Your Property Rights???

  • Those owning 5 or more acres of land are subject to severe regulations that effectively dictate what can be done on half of their own property
  • There are already private organizations that purchase land for the expressed purpose of maintaining the environment
  • Landowners are not allowed compensation by the legislation. Instead, they are penalized and fined if they do not maintain their own property as required by the ordinance (500 dollars per 1/10th acre per day!)
  • Economic growth and prosperity would be inhibited because of these burdensome and excessive regulations – developers that wish to build residential development projects would be prevented from building upon half of their property
  • This ordinance’s restriction on residential development projects would only punish lower and middle-income families by increasing the cost of living in Brevard County
