FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Senate Passage of USMCA Trade Deal

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the Senate’s passage today of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) trade deal, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

"We have long believed that prolonged uncertainty on trade would have detrimental effects on the U.S. economy. The passage of this deal between the United States, Mexico, and Canada will provide needed stability for farmers, businesses, and families. This also marks the fulfillment of a key campaign promise made by President Trump.

"However, we are profoundly disappointed that the deal, in its final form, amounts to a massive giveaway to union bosses. It fails to truly eradicate trade barriers, and allows foreign nations to impact wage requirements and drug prices in the United States. We wish these issues had been properly addressed and see the failure to do so as a missed opportunity.

“We thank Senator Toomey for raising a budget point of order prior to the final vote on passage. He has been bold yet correct in pointing out some ills of the agreement. We look forward to working with his office and others that want to increase trade between the United States and the rest of the world, for the betterment of all involved.”
