Key Vote on Cosponsors for Limited Government Legislation in the Senate

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to cosponsor limited government legislation that has been introduced the in the Senate. For purposes of FreedomWorks’ 2018 Congressional Scorecard, cosponsors will be treated as YES votes.

FreedomWorks is taking this extraordinary step to key vote co-sponsorships because of the lack of action on certain pieces of legislation in the Senate. Although there have been some successful legislative initiatives in this Congress, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and the leadership team have continuously brought bills to the floor that spend more money and plunge America further into debt.

Not only has Leader McConnell brought bills to the Senate floor that grow the size and scope of the federal government and further add to the budget deficit, he has hid behind procedure to not bring legislation to the floor and to shield senators from being held accountable and taking tough votes. If Democrats refuse to vote for cloture, Republicans should make them stand and talk to filibuster limited government legislation.

The bills for which cosponsors will be included on FreedomWorks’ 2018 Congressional Scorecard are:

  • Federal Reserve Transparency Act, S. 16
  • Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, S. 21
  • National Right-to-Work Act, S. 545
  • CREATES Act, S. 974
  • CBO Show Your Work Act, S. 1746
  • Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act, S. 1917
  • Earmark Elimination Act, S. 2330

FreedomWorks reserves the right to key vote cosponsors of bills not listed above. Should Leader McConnell bring these bills to the floor, FreedomWorks will substitute the cosponsor key vote for the roll call vote.

FreedomWorks will count the cosponsors of these bills on our 2018 Congressional Scorecard. Cosponsors will be treated as YES votes. The scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the FreedomFighter Award, which recognizes Members of the House and Senate who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.

Sincerely,

Adam Brandon, President, FreedomWorks
