Taxing, Indeed

Charlie Rangel filled some column inches in the Wall Street Journal defending his tax plan yesterday. He claims that his plan would "stop the middle class tax raid." So it’s a boost for the middle class! Right? Well, maybe not. Economist Greg Mankiw says the biggest beneficiaries of the tax cut would be the 3% of earners who make between $200,000 and $500,000 a year. Meanwhile, National Center for Policy Analysis chairman Pete du Pont enters the WSJ ring with Rangel and parses out the plan from a different perspective.
