Why is FreedomWorks backing Representative Raúl Labrador in his decision to challenge Rep. Kevin McCarthy and run for House Majority Leader?
The national media has declared the leadership race a foregone conclusion, with Kevin McCarthy winning hands down. His record as an establishment moderate makes him largely indistinguishable from his predecessor.
Between McCarthy and Labrador, the decision is a no-brainer. Rep. Labrador is the strongest leadership choice for constitutional conservatives who are ready to shake things up in Congress.
FreedomWorks launched the #RunRaulRun social media campaign to encourage Rep. Labrador to run for Majority Leader because Americans deserve a choice in leadership. Republicans should have learned by now that ‘the next guy in line’ isn't entitled to the next rung on the ladder.
Kevin McCarthy represents more of the stale, failed leadership we have seen from Republicans in Congress. But given Chris McDaniel’s primary upset forcing Thad Cochran into a Mississippi Senate runoff, and Dave Brat’s win over Eric Cantor, the American people have made it loud and clear that the status quo is not acceptable anymore- and Raúl Labrador is the man to make DC listen.
Labrador has a 92 percent lifetime rating on the FreedomWorks Congressional Scorecard, and has won our coveted Freedom Fighter Award twice. He has a proven record of making good policy and fiscal responsibility a priority in the House.
Kevin McCarthy has a 72% lifetime score on our scorecard- a score even lower than Eric Cantor’s.
Labrador repeatedly voted to repeal ObamaCare in its entirety, voted to rein in the NSA's uncontrolled spying on all Americans, and against excessive spending bills. He believes the IRS needs to stop targeting non-profit groups, that harmful EPA overregulation needs to be reined in, and is ready to audit the Federal Reserve.
We need your help to send messages to your representative to support Raúl Labrador in the leadership election on June 19. With broad on-the-ground support and a coalition of your representatives in the House to back his candidacy, we can win.
Thanks to Raúl Labrador, Republicans don’t have to settle for the ‘next guy in line.’ We hope you join us and act now to ensure that good policy and fiscal responsibility are at the top of the Republican agenda in the House.
