Federal Government's Latest First Amendment Assault Targets College Campuses

Adding to this week's Scandalpalooza is a lesser known, but incredibly disturbing tidbit. According to Legal Insurrection, the federal government mandated speech codes on all college campuses.  Free speech issues on college campuses usually center around student groups' rights to protest, but this latest first amendment assault creates such a subjective vacuum, it renders every college student a potential criminal:

Obama and Religious Freedom Day; A Hypocritical Head-Scratcher

“I, Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 16, 2013, as Religious Freedom Day.”

Gawker: First Amendment for Me, Not for Thee

Ah, the hypocrisy of the left. Rarely is it on such display as in questions of the First Amendment. The left delights in the right to say anything they like, however inflammatory and to publish what they like, no matter the consequences. All of this under the rights protected by the First Amendment. However, when the tables are turned, they are the first to cry foul.

Conflicting Rulings on Obamacare

When Nancy Pelosi announced that the Obamacare bill would have to be passed in order to see what was in it, the American people knew (or should have known) that this was not a piece of legislation which had been fully considered. Now that it is law, this is becoming increasingly evident on at least one front; the response to litigation against it. A look at decisions made regarding lawsuits filed against Obamacare show that the judicial system was not prepared for such arguments. Take, for example, the cases of Hobby Lobby and Domino’s Farms.

Support Hobby Lobby Against Government Tyranny

When a government oversteps its limitations, citizens will sometimes grumble or gripe. When it’s the American government overstepping the bounds of the Constitution, Americans band together and take it a little more seriously.

Free Speech and The War on Christmas

In 1953,  a tradition began in Santa Monica, California. Nativity scenes were displayed in Palisades Park at Christmas time, earning Santa Monica the nickname “City of the Christmas Story.” Now, after a bitter dispute over free speech, that nickname has come to an end.

DISCLOSE Act Passes: Time to Turn Up the Heat on the Senate

We just received word that regretfully the DISCLOSE Act passed.  To see who did what, go to the roll call votes here.  As was noted yesterday, to cover the butts of any uncertain legislators, Reid has promised the Senate will take this up.  The DISCLOSE Act action center has been updated so that you can immediately turn your ire on the other chamber.

Call Congress: Oppose the DISCLOSE Act

As you've probably read and heard on the news or talk radio, there is a bill looming in Congress that poses a serious threat to our freedom of speech, as protected by the First Amendment. H.R. 5175, the DISCLOSE Act, is the brain-child of Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D, MD-8), who as Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is tasked with getting Democrats elected to Congress. The bill is a clear partisan political tool that would further expand government's reach into Americans' daily lives by restricting political giving and involvement in elections.
