CSE Educates Voters on North Carolina Tax Pledge Breakers

KERNERSVILLE, NC. CSE members have a message to the state legislators who voted to raise taxes by $1 billion dollars: “We Won’t Forget.”

That’s why CSE is launching a voter education campaign across North Carolina to let voters know which officials kept their word and which officials broke their pledge and voted to raise taxes. The campaign includes radio advertisements, auto-dial telephone calls, and broad grassroots action.

The bottom line: CSE members won’t forget the politicians who say one thing during campaign season and vote another way in office.

The leading case in point is State Representative Mike Decker, who voted for House Bill 397, the 2003 budget that included a $1 billion tax increase. Mike Decker and 11 other CSE tax pledge signers didn’t keep their word and instead voted for an increase in the sales tax, an increase in the state income tax, and an increase in the death tax (the vote keeps North Carolina’s death tax instead of reducing it in line with the federal death tax phase down).

CSE North Carolina Director Allen Page commented:

“We plan to hold the tax-and-spenders accountable for their actions! CSE will be going door-to-door in key district precincts to let voters know that Rep. Decker refused to honor his pledge and voted to raise taxes.”
