FreedomWorks Statement on “Bedford CSE”

The group referring to itself as B-CSE, Bedford CSE, Bedford FreedomWorks, or B FreedomWorks has no affiliation whatsoever to Citizens for a Sound Economy (now “FreedomWorks”). Divergent philosophies, strategies and tactics led to the decision to part ways some months ago.

Despite best efforts by FreedomWorks to work with the local group on a mutually agreeable transition, actions and statements by the leaders of the group made such a transition impossible. As a result, Matt Kibbe, President of FreedomWorks, made the decision to permanently cut all ties with the group, stating:

“The individuals representing themselves as B-CSE, Bedford CSE, Bedford FreedomWorks, or B FreedomWorks have no grounds to do so. They do not accurately represent the philosophy and mission that CSE, now FreedomWorks, was originally founded on. While I regret that we were not able to resolve our differences and split amicably, the more than 3,000 volunteer members of FreedomWorks across the state of New Hampshire need to know that this local group no longer has anything to do with our organization.”

This decision was communicated by counsel for FreedomWorks to, and received by, agents acting on behalf of the local group on two different occasions in August and September. In these letters, FreedomWorks asked for the local group’s assurances that it would immediately and permanently cease and desist using the names “BEDFORD CSE” “BEDFORD CITIZENS FOR A SOUND ECONOMY,” “B CSE” and “B FREEDOMWORKS” in connection with its organization and its political action committee and fundraising activities as they are confusingly similar to the CSE name and therefore, will cause confusion among the general public.

Mr. Kibbe is available for further comment.
