GOProud Board Member Resigns; Contemplating Primary Challenge To South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham

Interesting news out of South Carolina this morning. Bruce Carroll, an openly gay Republican and board member at GOProud, has resigned his position on that organization’s board of directors. He is seriously contemplating making a run for Senate and challenging Lindsey Graham in the primary. If successful, Carroll would be South Carolina’s first openly gay Senator.

Thanks to the Supreme Court, Seniors Still "Trapped in Medicare"

In 2008, a group of liberty-minded citizens filed a lawsuit, Hall v. Sebelius, to disconnect Medicare Part A membership from their Social Security benefits. Last February, the D.C. Court of Appeals narrowly ruled in favor of the government, and the case seemed destined to reach the Supreme Court. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court recently announced that it would refuse to hear the case, thereby rendering the lower court’s decision final.

DeMint and Scott: The Changing of the Guard

The news of the day is, undoubtedly, that Jim DeMint will be leaving the Senate.  In January, the Senator will become the next president of The Heritage Foundation, a well known conservative think tank.

Senate Republicans Push for Internet Sales Taxes

Despite their lip service to cutting taxes, a handful of Republican senators are pushing for a sales tax on Internet purchases. Senator Mike Enzi of Wyoming has introduced the so-called Marketplace Fairness Act that would create a new national online tax that would take away more of our money and freedom. The Republican cosponsors of S. 1832 are Sens. Lamar Alexander, Roy Blunt, John Boozman, and Bob Corker. These Internet sales tax schemes are nothing new but greedy politicians seem more determined than ever to pass it this year.

VIDEO: FreePAC Blogger Press Conference With Senators And Candidates

One of the privileges afforded the writers on Bloggers Row at FreePAC on July 26 was the opportunity to attend a "press gaggle" after the event. We had the opportunity to head down to the arena's catacombs for press availability with Sen. Jim DeMint, Sen. Mike Lee, Sen. Rand Paul, Senate Candidate Ted Cruz from Texas and Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock from Indiana. Here is the video of that event. (Technical note - please excuse the audio difficulties. There was a ton of background noise and this was taken on my cell phone.)Highlights include:

Our Favorite Bills to Replace ObamaCare

We need to repeal and replace ObamaCare. ObamaCare has to go -- all of it. But at FreedomWorks, we think full repeal is not enough. We also need to build a patient-centered, consumer-driven system, one that’s so successful and popular that no politician will ever again dare to take it over. What we don’t need is another massive, complicated top-down overhaul. Rather, we need a few targeted, sensible reforms that reduce costs and give patients more freedom and control.

Issue Analysis

The Dollar Sailing on the Titanic

Do you trust the government with your money?  Perhaps a better question to ask is do you trust Ben Bernanke and Timmy Geithner with your money?  If you answered yes to any of those questions here is an interesting little fact for you.  Did you know that the value of our currency has decreased by 95% since 1913, which was when the Federal Reserve was created?  There are some who have come to understand that our fiat based currency is hardly worth the paper it was printed on, which is why people have started to buy gold and silver.
