Don't Let These Representatives Kill Charter Bill SB 2401 in Mississippi

Urgent Action NeededSB 2401, which would establish charter schools in the state, recently passed the Senate, but now it must pass the House. Charter schools operate outside of the education establishment, which means they can institute a dynamic curriculum that meets the needs of individual students. Unfortunately, some House members have chosen to ignore the facts and are instead going to great lengths to prevent this reform from taking place.

A Big Step For Louisiana Children

One Step Closer to School Choice Reform in Louisiana After many long hours of debate on the House floor last Friday, H.B. 974 and H.B.976 (two of the most controversial and boldest pieces of legislation) passed by large margins despite establishment and union opposition.  Their success marked a huge victory for Governor Jindal’s bold education reform plan, and for hundreds of thousands of students currently attending failed Louisiana schools.

RedState Weighs in on South Carolina School Choice Fight

As FreedomWorks continues to wage its massive school choice campaign in South Carolina another national organization has taken note of the importance of this battle.  Conservative blog RedState wrote the following article targeting Rep. Jenny Horne, who is primary opposition to the bill in the house.  Rep. Horne has gone out of her way stating she would prevent a vote on H.4894 the primary bill FreedomWorks and our activists have been fighting for months.

Urgent Action Needed in South Carolina School Choice Fight

State Representative Jenny Horne (R-94) is standing with the education establishment to block school choice. With all the evidence that South Carolina’s public school system is badly in need of reform, why is Rep. Jenny Horne standing in the way of school choice? Rather than support H.4894, a school choice bill that would benefit her constituents in Charleston and Dorchester counties, Rep. Horne is attempting to delay a vote on H.4894 in a blatant and cynical maneuver to kill this much-needed legislation.

Help Bring Charter Schools to Mississippi

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, only 22% of Mississippi 4th graders are proficient in math and reading, and only 19% of 8th graders are proficient in those same subjects. These numbers demonstrate the abject failure of an entrenched education establishment, and that’s why FreedomWorks is helping Governor Bryant bring free-market solutions to the education system. The governor is committed to reform, but he needs our help to get it done.

Urgent Action Needed in Louisiana

FreedomWorks is teaming up with local tea party and school choice groups to support Governor Jindal’s education reform package.  The package includes vouchers for students in under-performing public schools, performance-based tenure, and tax credits for individuals and businesses to sponsor tuition for the schools that best meets a child’s educational needs.

Louisiana: Key Vote YES on Three Education Reform Bills

Dear FreedomWorks member, As one of our 15,000 Louisiana FreedomWorks members, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote YES on three education reform bills. Introduced by Rep. Steve Carter (R-District 68), H.B. 933, H.B. 974 and H.B. 976 will allow parents to choose their child’s school and improve the quality of education in Louisiana. If these bold education reforms are passed, Louisiana will become a model for the rest of the nation to follow.

FreedomWorks Stands With Governor Jindal

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NEAP), which tracks the test scores of 4th through 8th graders across the country, Louisiana ranks 49th with only 18% of these students considered proficient in reading and math. This fact is particularly troubling since state and local governments spend nearly $12,000 per student per year on what can only be called a failed system.

Urgent Action Needed in South Carolina School Choice Fight

Tomorrow, the House Ways and Means Committee will be voting to decide if H.4894 will be brought to the House floor.  The bill gives parents and students greater control over their education by allowing the use of tax credits and deductions to send children to the school that best meets their needs.
