President and Founder
Matt Kibbe has been President and Founder of FreedomWorks, a national community-building and grassroots advocacy organization, since its founding in 2004. An economist by training, Kibbe is a well-respected public policy expert, bestselling author and political commentator. He also serves as Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Austrian Economic Center in Vienna, Austria.
Dubbed “the scribe” by the New York Daily News, Kibbe is most recently author of the #2 New York Times bestseller Don’t Hurt People and Don’t Take Their Stuff: A Libertarian Manifesto (HarperCollins 2014). Don't Hurt People is his not-so-humble attempt to translate the entire cannon of Classical Liberal thinking into plain English and six simple "Rules For Liberty." Kibbe's vision of the free society is built on community, civility and individual responsibility, not coercion and compulsion.
In 2012 Kibbe published Hostile Takeover: Resisting Centralized Government's Stranglehold on America (HarperCollins), an optimistic account of the monumental clash between an elite political class of well-connected insiders, crony capitalists, and power-mongers of all political stripes, versus a new generation of citizen shareholders armed with easily-accessible information, disruptive social technology, and the liberty to act. He is also coauthor of the New York Times bestseller Give Us Liberty: A Tea Party Manifesto (HarperCollins, 2010).
Kibbe appears frequently on national television including FOX News, HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, The Blaze TV and CSPAN. he is also an occasional contributor to the Wall Street Journal, Reason, USA Today, POLITICO, and the New York Times.

Before joining FreedomWorks, Kibbe served as Chief of Staff and House Budget Committee Associate Staff in the U.S. House of Representatives; Director of Federal Budget Policy for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; Senior Economist for the Republican National Committee during Lee Atwater's tenure; and as Managing Editor of Market Process, an academic journal published at George Mason University.
Kibbe did graduate work in economics at George Mason University and received his B.A. in economics from Grove City College.
Kibbe lives in Washington, DC with his awesome wife Terry and their three liberty-minded cats, Roark, Ragnar and Iko. A noted scholarly expert on The Big Lebowski, Kibbe is also an avid DeadHead, drinker of beer and whiskey, and collector of obscure books on libertarian philosophy.
