Tax, Spending Limit Group to Tour State

TAX, SPENDING LIMIT GROUP TO TOUR STATE: A group calling itself Michigan FreedomWorks announced Wednesday that it will conduct a tour of the state to gather support for a constitutional amendment that would limit state spending to the rate of inflation plus population growth and require voter approval of all tax increases.

Trumpeting the proposal known as the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, the group plans to make 16 stops in August. Its schedule: 7:30 p.m. August 7 in Kalamazoo, 8 a.m. August 8 in Calhoun County, 7:30 p.m. August 8 in Berrien County, 7 p.m. August 9 in Jackson, 7 p.m. August 10 in rural Washtenaw County, 7 p.m. August 11 in Lenawee County, 8 a.m. August 12 in Monroe County, 7 p.m. August 15 in Shiawassee County, 7 p.m. August 16 for Tuscola, Huron and Sanilac counties, 8 a.m. August 17 in Saginaw County, 8 a.m. August 18 in Genesee County, 8 a.m. August 19 in western Oakland County and 7 p.m. August 22 in Grand Rapids.

The group also plans meetings in Southern Wayne County, Muskegon and Grand Traverse County, but has not set times and dates.
