Interested in reading the Baucus health care legislation?

Since the September release of the Baucus Chairman’s mark (a summary of what the bill would say when they write it), Americans have patiently awaited the opportunity to read the actual legislation from the Senate, like so many did before attending town halls in August to let their congressmen know they did not like what they saw in the House version, HR 3200.

After examining everything that has been made available to the American public–and their representatives for that matter– some people are understandably less than thrilled.  Commenting on or the legislation, or lack there of, here is what a few of them had to say:

Passing the… massive health care reform bill without reading it or allowing the public to do so will qualify as among the worse instances ever of legislative malpractice. The shameless message Democrats are thus sending to the American people, with tacit approval of the White House, is this: “We won’t read the bill, and neither will you.”

The arrogance and outright imperialistic nature of the Senate insisting that they can bring a bill without legislative language to the Senate floor.. without showing it to the American people, Senators or anyone else is essentially a complete violation of the scared trust between the elected class and the American voter.

The procedure being used, in addition to the exclusion of the American people from the process, should be of grave concern to all who want to participate in democracy and have a say in Congress’ health care reforms that will touch 1/6th of the American economy.
