FreedomWorks Foundation Statement in Response to Trump Administration’s Proposed Ban on Flavored E-Cigarettes

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to the Trump Administration’s announcement today of a proposed ban on flavored e-cigarette and vaping products, Dan Savickas, FreedomWorks Regulatory Policy Manager, commented:

“It is incredibly discouraging to see an administration that has prided itself in rolling back regulatory red tape now try to run the American people’s lives for them. Flavored e-cigarettes have been a vital option for so many Americans who want to quit smoking. Government involvement in this case, as it always does, will cause more harm than good.

“The prohibition era is a black stain in the lexicon of American history and a departure from our nation’s freedom loving tradition. This proposal embodies the spirit of such a stain and reflects that some out of touch American bureaucrats still think they know what’s best for the American people. Flavored e-cigarettes are no more an attempt to market nicotine to minors than Mike’s Hard Lemonade is an attempt to market them alcohol. This proposal is the antithesis of draining the swamp and should be opposed by all freedom-loving Americans.”
