Trial Lawyers Contributed $508,000 to Democratic Senate Campaigns in the Month of April

On June 2nd, the Associated Press published an article entitled, “Trial Lawyers Give $500,000 as Legislation Heads to Senate Floor,” outlining the trial lawyers’ campaign to defeat Senate Bills 353 and 1185 which are currently scheduled to be introduced to the Senate floor later this month.

This latest report only confirms the growing power and influence that trial lawyers have obtained in the political process. Trial lawyers gave $4.4 million dollars to Democratic candidates and political candidates in 1999, an increase of 150 percent over contributions made on their behalf in the last presidential election. Reportedly, ATLA’s political action committee contributed $2.3 million to federal candidates between January 1, 1999 and March 31, 2000.
