As Economy Stalls, Democrats Remain Out Of Touch With Voters

Economists are now reporting what we all know already – America’s economic growth has ground to a halt. Wednesday’s report from the Commerce Department was bleak. The expected growth in GDP was 1.1%, but the Commerce Department is now reporting a rate of growth of only 0.1%. This has been felt for a long time by average Americans. According to a Gallup poll, economic problems dominate in the question of the most important problem facing the nation today. This makes the priorities championed by Democrats all the more puzzling. As we struggle to sustain an economic recovery that has been charitably described as "choppy", Democrats continue to push an agenda that is out of touch and fails to solve the underlying problems.

In that Gallup poll, 47% of those sampled list economic problems as the biggest problem facing the nation. That figure is dominated by several specific issues: Economy in General, Unemploymnet/Jobs, Federal Budget Deficit/Federal Debt, and Lack of Money. After that, only 3% of respondents list Gap Between Rich and Poor as the most important problem, and Wage Issues rates a paltry 1%.

So why are Democrats putting a minimum wage hike at the top of their priority list? They held yet another vote today, and according to Bloomberg News they’ll keep doing it over and over:

U.S. Senate Democrats are pledging to hold more votes before November’s election on raising the federal minimum wage, conceding they probably won’t have enough support to move the measure forward today.

“We’re going to keep bringing it back,” New York Senator Charles Schumer, the chamber’s third-ranking Democrat, said yesterday.

The measure needs 60 votes to advance in the 100-member Senate.

The vote failed, causing Democrats to take to social media and breathlessly accuse Republicans of hurting the poor. It’s especially ironic that they vow to continue to bring this up despite certain defeat, in view of their constant criticism of the many votes by Republicans to repeal Obamacare.

What other items are on their agenda? How bout a hopeless Constitutional amendment to repeal the SCOTUS decisions on the Citizens United and McCutcheon cases? How do either of these priorities help Americans in the greatest crisis of our every day lives?

In the mean time, Harry Reid has routinely blocked every jobs bill sent to the Senate by House Republicans. The labor participation rate is the lowest it’s been in 40 years, and the Democrats are delibrately blocking job growth while demagoguing on the minimum wage and campaign finance.

How is it that the Democrats are for the little guy again?
