ObamaCare's Cadillac tax was designed to end employer-sponsored health insurance

Jonathan Gruber's comments about ObamaCare, revealed last year thanks to the efforts of Rich Weinstein, were rare moments of honesty about the 2010 health insurance law. The White House and administration officials, of course, tried to distance themselves from the MIT economist. Yet, in June, it was revealed by the Wall Street Journal that Gruber "worked more closely than previously known with the White House and top federal officials to shape the law."

Arizona Republicans Censure John McCain

Arizona Republicans voted to censure Senator John McCain, refusing for now to endorse his reelection in 2016. The group cited his voting record, flip-flop on border security, and public attacks on conservatives.

Four Occasions Republicans Worked with Democrats on ObamaCare

Senators John McCain and Tom Harkin kvetched on Friday that the Senate had become too partisan; Sen. Harkin warned in hushed tones that it was “very dangerous… every bit as dangerous as the break-up of the Union before the Civil War.” Presumably they were talking about conservatives who oppose ObamaCare.

Ten Republicans Working to Fund Obamacare

With Sen. Ted Cruz fighting Obamacare this week “until he can’t stand,” it is a timely occasion to remember which Republicans have been working with Democrats to knock Sen. Cruz down. Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI) The second-term former MTV star complained on Friday that he and his friends in the House had “kept a lid on our anger” at Sen. Cruz, explaining, “we were the punching bag and bullied by some of these Senate conservatives.”

Syria, the NSA, Obamacare, and Impeachment

In every one of these situations: the push to attack Syria, the NSA spying on citizens, funding and implementation of Obamacare; proponents want to allow the government to do something it should not do, but claim we will be able to stop it if it goes any further. That thinking is backwards. The way to stop the NSA from gathering citizens' data, to keep the attack on Syria from escalating, and to stop Obamacare, is not to allow them to get started (funded) in the first place.

GOProud Board Member Resigns; Contemplating Primary Challenge To South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham

Interesting news out of South Carolina this morning. Bruce Carroll, an openly gay Republican and board member at GOProud, has resigned his position on that organization’s board of directors. He is seriously contemplating making a run for Senate and challenging Lindsey Graham in the primary. If successful, Carroll would be South Carolina’s first openly gay Senator.

Higher and Higher

Shorter Ruth Marcus: What America really needs is higher taxes. In fact, it would be totally awesome campaign strategy for a Republican to just say, "Yeah, higher taxes! We need 'em!" Because clearly, GOP voters eat that sort of thing up.
