FreedomWorks Calls Out Speaker Johnson for Failure to Acknowledge Fiscal Realities

Washington, D.C. – Reacting to Speaker Mike Johnson’s comments on the Fiscal Commission Act he made on CNBC, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks president, commented:

“Speaker Johnson says he ‘supports’ the Fiscal Commission Act as long as preconditions are met while also succumbing to outdated politics by failing to recognize that the so-called ‘third rails’ – Social Security and Medicare – are driving America into a fiscal death spiral. Millennials and Generation Z believe it is necessary to address these programs. Indeed, 65 percent of 18- to 49-year-olds want to ‘reform’ or ‘modernize’ Social Security and Medicare.”

“Speaker Johnson represents this old-school Washington fantasyland where we can ignore the actual problems that face our country and leave it to those who come next. That is just not the case anymore, and we have the data to prove it. Younger generations see the looming fiscal cliff, know they’re stuck with the bill, and want us to do something about it. Speaker Johnson should listen. Every day this crisis passes without it being addressed makes the pain of solving it that much worse. Our procrastination is selling Millennials and Generation Z out.”
