FreedomWorks Demands Separating FISA from Funding Bill

Washington, D.C. – Weighing in on the potential reauthorization of Title VII of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (known as “Section 702”) in the imminent must-pass funding bill, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks president, commented:

“As if the Intelligence Committee Chairman’s phony threat of Russian space nukes wasn’t enough to dissuade Congressional leadership from trying to pull a fast one on us, here they go again. This time, the specter of a government shutdown will be used to reauthorize Section 702 of FISA, which will continue warrantless surveillance of American citizens, sources say.

That’s right, they’re using the backdoor to reauthorize a backdoor into our private lives. Talk about life imitating art! Look, all we’re asking for is the proper debate on the House floor and an up or down vote on extremely popular privacy measures

If instead, leadership rams this reauthorization into must-pass funding legislation, we will KEY VOTE NO and count the vote on our 2024 Scorecard for such a spineless maneuver.”

FreedomWorks exists to mobilize the principled center and politically homeless in America who do not feel their values of fiscal responsibility, social tolerance, and individual liberty are being represented in political discourse today. We seek to restore common sense and competence to public policy and American political life.
