It’s Time to Permanently Eliminate Internet Access Taxes

Washington, DC – Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) applauds the recent introduction of legislation that would permanently abolish harmful and discriminatory Internet access taxes. H.R. 49, the “Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act” sponsored by Rep. Christopher Cox (R-Calif.) would permanently extend the moratorium on Internet access taxes.

CSE President Paul Beckner had these comments:

“CSE supports the efforts of the 90 bi-partisan co-sponsors of H.R 49. Legislators need to do everything in their power to ensure that the current moratorium on internet access taxes is made permanent. Americans simply should not be punished for using the internet.

“These access taxes are discriminatory and regressive and would constrain the full potential of our dynamic economy. Congress has voted twice to extend the moratorium on internet access taxes; it’s time for legislators to make it permanent. CSE urges the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative law to quickly mark-up H.R. 49 so that a full House vote can proceed.”
