Tonight’s State of the Union Address Marks the Final Days of Obama’s Divisive Presidency

Ahead of President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress, FreedomWorks CEO Adam Brandon reflected on Barack Obama’s divisive presidency and described the agenda congressional Republicans should pursue in the coming months.

“Nobel Laureate Friedrich Hayek once said, ‘The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design.’ He could have been writing about the Obama administration,” said Brandon. “If President Obama’s words could be used currency, we would have recovered from the Great Recession years ago.”

“Instead, the economy has been mired in a weak recovery. Destructive laws, tax increases, and a seemingly endless stream of regulations have created a tough atmosphere for businesses,” said Brandon. “This president’s most infamous domestic policy legacy is a health care law that caused millions of Americans to lose the coverage and medical providers they had and liked and increased the cost of insurance premiums and deductibles.”

“President Obama’s tenure in office should also be defined by his refusal to work with Congress when Republicans took over the House in 2011. When he couldn’t get its policy agenda through Congress, he decided to bypass lawmakers entirely by enacting it through executive fiat,” Brandon continued. “And when grassroots conservative activists tried to exercise their free speech rights to speak out against President Obama’s policies, they were targeted by Lois Lerner and the IRS, which was one of at least a few scandals he supposedly learned about on the news.”

“Tonight’s speech won’t be the last that President Obama gives, but it does mark the beginning of the final days of his corrupt administration. We urge Republicans not to run out the clock. They must begin to offer a conservative agenda that promotes economic growth for all Americans through lower taxes and less regulation, combats cronyism, reforms the criminal justice system, and restores the Constitution,” Brandon added.

FreedomWorks aims to educate, build, and mobilize the largest network of activists advocating the principles of smaller government, lower taxes, free markets, personal liberty and the rule of law. For more information, please visit or contact Jason Pye at
