One Thousand Days without a Budget

President Obama’s State of the Union address this evening will mark the passage of the 1000th day since the Democrat-controlled Senate passed a budget. In his address this evening, the President will likely propose even more federal spending despite the enormous deficit and the unprecedented $15 trillion dollar national debt. Without a budget from our elected representatives to provide restraint to Washington bureaucrats, this increased spending will continue unchecked.

That's $14 Trillion--Trillion with a 'T'

A battle royal is brewing between the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and the Obama administration over increasing the debt ceiling. The House recently rejected a “clean” bill to raise the debt ceiling that did not include any spending reforms. With the economy lagging and voters rejecting the notion of spending our way to prosperity, the debate over spending is now front and center on the domestic policy agenda. Unfortu-nately, Democrats have failed to address the issue.

GE's Crony Capitalism: The Saga Continues

The other week, I blogged here about G.E.'s crony capitalism tactics that take advantage of tax code loopholes and other special treatment for big corporations by big government.  FreedomWorks has long been beating the drum against rent-seekers like GE and Duke Energy, so it was a little surprising that yesterday's  New York Times article, "G.E.'s Strategies Let It Avoid Taxes Altogether,"

Scorecard on Government Spending

Recently, President Obama reiterated the necessity for increased government “investing” in our economy.  The way the President’s argument is shaped it seems like government has been standing out of the way, back in the shadows, just waiting to emerge amidst the calamity created by an unfettered deregulated private sector.  The only way we will be competitive in the successive years, of course, is if we spend more taxpayer money on liberal pet projects and “invest” in special interest groups slobbering to indulge in the government subsidy trough.

Selective Amnesia of Reagan’s Legacy

Amazingly and audaciously, the mainstream media and liberal pundocracy has created a narrative that President Obama’s newly found centrism is molded in the inspirational optimism of President Reagan.  This narrative seems confusing, when many liberals excoriate Reagan’s economic policy as the grim reaper of capitalism coming to instill all the inequities of the free market.

The National Debt in Super Bowl Terms

With the Super Bowl just under a week away, the teams are set to meet in what should be an epic battle.  The Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers have fought their way through countless obstacles to emerge the victors of their respective conferences.  As each team arrives in Dallas, the site of Super Bowl 45, the teams are focused on the hoopla that surrounds the week prior to the Super Bowl.  Media appearances, two-a-day practices, and countless film sessions surround these fearless athletes.  To say the least, these guys are overly distracted.
