FreedomWorks Foundation Submits Formal Comments to FDA Opposing Bans on Menthol Cigarettes and Flavored Cigars

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, FreedomWorks Foundation submitted two formal comments to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) opposing two proposed rules: one to ban flavors in cigars and the other to ban the manufacture and sale of menthol cigarettes.

Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“Both of these proposals represent yet another attempt by the Biden Administration to grossly overstep the bounds of their authority and harm countless people in the process. If implemented, both of these rules would have the opposite of their intended effect, resulting instead in the loss of taxpayer revenue, harm to small businesses, a robust black market, and the consequent criminalization of consumers who, up until now, were using legal products.”

“Rather than limiting choice and infantilizing adults, the FDA should be focused on preventing underage kids from getting access to tobacco products. We urge the FDA to retract both of these proposals as soon as possible.”
