1) Video of the Week: In this video, American political scientist, Charles Murray, explains how deeply entrenched regulatory state tyranny is in our legal system, and how everyday Americans can fight back.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently waived Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) requirement for Andeavor, one of the nation’s largest oil refineries. Andeavor’s exemption tolls a death knell for the RFS and its crony backers.
Reports say President Trump might fund his trillion dollar infrastructure plan with a $.25 per-gallon gasoline tax, an AWFUL proposal. Hiking the federal gas tax is crazy – gas prices are already high thanks to the horrid Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), a secret tax and fake-science subsidy that hurts Americans.
At the end of last month, FreedomWorks Foundation's Regulatory Action Center submitted comments to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) expressing disappointment with the agency's proposed compliance rules for 2018 under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program.
Democracy and Power 107: Counting Votes
Successful ... politicians are insecure and intimidated men. They advance politically only as they placate, appease, bribe, seduce, bamboozle or otherwise manage to manipulate the demanding and threatening elements in their constituencies. —Walter Lippmann (1889-1974), American Journalist and Author
The Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) is a federal mandate that requires gradually increasing amounts of biofuels such as corn-based ethanol and other experimental biofuels to be blended into the nation's fuel supply.
The EPA's latest biofuel initiative may cause substantial damage to vehicles, but why let the effects of bad policy get in the way of implementing unnecessary, burdensome policy?
Democracy and Power 114: The Power PlayersWho actually controls the force of government? Politicians and interest groups control the American political process. Special-interest groups – big business, big unions, education, seniors, and a multitude of others - seek special privileges: tax breaks, subsidies, exclusive legislation, etc. Interest groups give enormous money to political campaigns, and receive gigantic benefits in return.
Whenever our bloated federal government comes up with a grand, new scheme, the law of “unintended consequences” strikes hard and fast. The energy policies of both Presidents Obama and Bush give a striking example of the harm that a well-meaning government can cause. At a time when gas prices are at their higher level yet, it makes sense that we should be looking to other forms of fuel to put into our cars and churn out of our factories. Thus, the two previous administrations, with the support of many politicians, have subsidized the conversion of crops into biofuels.
