One of the big arguments for ObamaCare is that the law has mechanisms in place that control healthcare costs, or at least that's what Americans have been told countless times by President Barack Obama and others. They've seized on recent reports of the slowdown in healthcare spending, frequently asserting that the 2010 law is responsible. In reality, the looming effects of the Great Recession is the main reason why healthcare spending has risen at a slower pace.

Funny Math: The Government Pretends They Save You Money

The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services claim that consumers saved $3.9 billion because of restriction on insurance companies under Obamacare. The figure is almost meaningless. Also, they don't mention that Obamacare is raising insurance premiums, not lowering them.

Dean Clancy is right that health reform debate is about only two basic alternatives -- the HMO or the HSA. Reform either comes with top down, authoritarian price controls and foolish attempts to control the market with bureaucratic systems like Health Maintenance Organizations, or with a thin layer of structure to allow free people to make their own decisions, as happens with Health Savings Accounts.
