The House Freedom Caucus could push Republican leaders into pursuing a bold agenda

A group of liberty-minded House Republicans made waves in late January when they announced that they were leaving the Republican Study Committee to form a new invitation-only caucus that will focus exclusively on presenting and advancing an agenda grounded in limited government and the Constitution.

No, John Boehner is not "the most anti-establishment Speaker" in history

Just two days after facing an historic uprising within the ranks of his own House Republican Conference, Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) defended his four-year record as the lower chamber's presiding officer, telling reporters that he is "the most anti-establishment Speaker" in history.

The fight for Speaker is about the future of limited government principles

Today's vote for Speaker of the House is about much more than who will lead the lower chamber over the next two years. It's also about the future of the limited government, the principles on which Republicans run but often seem to cast aside when they're in power. All one needs to do is look to the not so distant past to find examples.

Taxpayers Lose on Shallow Loss Entitlement

This week, I decided to research the Farm Bill to write a little bit about some of the “reforms” House Republicans who support the bill are so proud of. The CBO estimates savings of $35 billion over the next ten years (vs. the current baseline). The CBO is also notorious for underestimating costs, and it looks like this time won’t be any different.

New Poll Shows Marketplace Fairness Act Universally Opposed

A favorite quote of mine, by Benjamin Franklin, goes like this: “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”

FreedomRadio: Dean Clancy on this Week's House Budget Votes

Click to listen! Yesterday, the House passed Paul Ryan's ten-year budget plan on mostly party lines while rejecting President Obama's budget unanimously. In my audio update this morning, I discuss the votes and give a brief look at the state of the national budget debate.

The Ryan (and Romney?) Budget

The House GOP budget proposal for the coming decade (2013-2022), released yesterday, is a mixture of boldness and caution, principle and compromise. Resembling and building on last year's House-passed "Ryan budget," the Path to Prosperity version 2.0 reads very much like a preview of a Romney Administration budget version 1.0. While not nearly as bold and principled as these debt-drenched times require, it would still be a major improvement over the status quo, and much better than what President Obama and congressional Democrats envision, namely, ever-bigger government.

Toward Regulatory Reform

President Obama recently released an op-ed article in the Wall Street Journal entitled, “Toward a 21st-Century Regulatory System”.  This article contained a myriad of policy advancements culminating in an executive order aimed at reducing the potentially onerous regulatory encroachments of the ever indulging bureaucracy (my words, not his of course).  One could only hope he would start with Obamacare.
