Your Guide to the National Debt (Part 1)

If you ask many Americans, the largest long-term crisis facing the country is the national debt. Persistently high unemployment, an uncertain economic recovery, soaring health care costs, and a stuttering public education system are all significant contemporary problems, but the skyrocketing national debt seems to loom as a threat to the stability of the government and country itself. With that in mind, shouldn't more of us have a firm understanding of how the national debt works?

Sequestration and the Dire Effects to State Budgets

With Congress set to convene to tackle sequestration and the fiscal cliff, the talk has once again centered around federal budget cuts and their potential effects. Tax hikes are back on the table, according to a few prominent Republicans this weekend. A large number of difficult military cuts looms. But few are thinking about the other layers of public spending that will be affected. State budgets will see massive effects from a potent mix of direct spending cuts and revenue reductions based, ironically, on the expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts.

Obama Campaign and the Media Try to Capitalize on Hurricane Sandy

Earlier yesterday, Team Obama was in full campaign mode despite the impending perils of the historical Hurricane Sandy.  Bill Clinton fired the original shot, fully politicizing the disastrous storm that was wreaking havoc on the east coast, essentially going with an 'if you think this storm is bad, wait until you see what happens if you vote Republican' blast.
